Music sounds better live! Part V

Right, I've had a long break in writing, but figured I should really get this post out of the way since I have new Madonna shows coming up and I want everything to be in a chronological order. I can't believe I'll be seeing Madonna again in less than six weeks! I'm going to her MDNA Tour shows in Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Brussels and Helsinki. Bring it!

In the meanwhile, though, here's my last update about the tours I've experienced to date. The second leg of the Sticky & Sweet Tour back in 2009. This was the year Madonna came to both Tallinn, Estonia and Helsinki, Finland for the first time and the shows took place on August 4th and 6th, respectively. I have to say that the thought of Madonna coming to Finland didn't actually make me happy - what it was like for me was "oh no, now the spell will break, everyone in Finland will have seen her soon". Yes, I like to keep Madonna to myself, I'm possessive like that. Also, even at the risk of sounding harsh, I'm just going to say this: Finnish audiences suck. Finns don't know how to have a good time and let loose. They think they do, but compared to people in Spain and Holland, for example, we're just lame. LAME. And it's boring to be in an audience like that, no matter who's performing, and I cannot even begin to imagine what it's like for the artist, who's after all used to amazing audiences all over the world. So, I guess, to sum it up, I wasn't happy about Madonna coming to Finland at all, apart from the fact that I was pleased I'd be saving a lot of money by not having to travel anywhere far to see her. Here's the deal, though: travelling somewhere abroad to see Madonna is the thing for me. Seeing her in my own country wasn't that big of a deal, quite the opposite, in fact, if you read what I just wrote up there.

But okay, the tickets for the show in Helsinki came out and it was a complete disaster. The system crashed and whatnot and fans didn't manage to get good tickets at all. I got a B ticket (A tickets were for the Golden Circle), which was disappointing for me, and this was after spending hours queueing outdoors in the cold with dozens of other people. None of my friends managed to get me tickets online while I was queueing outside, either. BLAH. But, then the Tallinn tickets came out and me and my friend Jaana managed to get Golden Circle tickets for the show there :)! Y-A-Y! We were so happy!

And then it was summer and Jaana and I were off to sunny Tallinn, Estonia. We spent a brilliant couple of days there, experiencing the crappiest hostel in the world (and YES, I'd go there again! What an insane place :D!) as well as the lovely city itself.

On the day of the concert, we walked to the Talling Song Festival Grounds at around noon, and were among the first people there. We got interviewed for a couple of newspapers and radio shows, which was pretty cool, though I have no idea if any of our interviews were ever published or broadcast anywhere. They opened different gates little by little, and eventually we were the ones against one of the gates to the actual venue, AND managed to make a run for it and ended up against the fence on the right side of the catwalk from our side. YAY!!!! This was Jaana's first time seeing Madonna so she got REALLY lucky!!

From left to right: Mervi (who we met while queueing), Jaana and me. I REALLY hate the way I look in these pictures but I'm going to have to post them as they're all I've got.

Myself and Jaana against the barrier by the catwalk :D!

Since I've already told you about the concert itself in my previous Sticky & Sweet update, I'll concentrate on the pictures now as for the first time, I actually had a camera with me. My pictures aren't too amazing but they're still something to look at :).

Madonna's manager Guy Oseary taking pictures of the audience :).

It was an amazing, amazing night and I loved the venue as well! It's a pity Madonna isn't going to Tallinn this summer as I'd so have gone there again. It was so great to be so close to her again!

With the Helsinki show, my spot was lousy. I was against the barrier dividing the A and B sections so basically I was as close to the stage as I would've been had I been at the back of section A. Not good enough for me. I was so embarrassed when the microphone was given to someone in the audience during Into The Groove and they didn't even know the lyrics...I wish I'd been there...Luckily, this year, all of my tickets are to the Golden Circle. I'm NEVER buying any other kind of tickets again!

I have to say, though, that the venue, Jätkäsaari by the sea, was amazing and probably extremely beautiful from Madonna's point of view as she could see the sun set, I think, during the show. From the audience's point of view, especially those at the very back, it probably wasn't the best place at all as you couldn't couldn't see a thing. Oh well, now they're building houses where the concert was, if I remember right, so there won't be any more concerts there. A nice one off for Madonna, though!

Anyway, here are a couple of my very bad pictures from the Helsinki show.

Queueing for the show :).

My view to the stage before all the people had arrived.

The distance from section B (my spot) to section C. They could probably see nothing from that far away!

Paul Oakenfold as the supporting act, AGAIN, along with a couple of Madonna's dancers.

Guy Oseary again...

And this is where my concert experiences end, for now. Fear not, though, as I'll be back with MDNA Tour reports VERY SOON, AAAAAAAAAH!!

Music sounds better live! Part IV

The most recent Madonna tour experiences I have are from the Sticky & Sweet Tour, both legs of it. I saw the show four times in the two years Madonna was touring - in Frankfurt and London in 2008 and in Tallinn and Helsinki in 2009.

Part 1: The Sticky & Sweet Tour 2008

The Frankfurt show was the first Madonna show where I went with my mum. It was her first time seeing Madonna live despite being the one to accidentally introduce me to her music through In Bed With Madonna and Blond Ambition back in 1992. The concert took place at Commerzbank-Arena on September 9th and it didn't have special Golden Circle tickets, meaning that, like in Amsterdam, with enough queueing, you could make it into the Circle anyway. This was what we were planning on doing.

We arrived in Frankfurt the previous evening and spent the first night at our favourite airport hotel in Hahn before catching the bus into the city the following morning. We'd booked into a hostel in the Red Light District as we'd only be staying for one night and the hostel happened to be close to the railway station, which was practical as we'd have to catch a train to the show as well as back to the airport the following morning. My mum is not a hostel kind of person but she'd agreed to stay at one as I was a poor student still. Well, what do you know, after this experience she'll most likely never want to give hostels a try! When we got to the hostel, we were told that there'd been some sort of leak on the floor where our room was supposed to be and that they were sorry but we didn't have a room. I got furious! We were in a hurry to go to the arena and start queueing, and now this! They offered to transport us to somewhere they couldn't tell us where it was for accommodation and it all got so suspicious that my mum just decided to book us another room at a real hotel around the corner. Phew! Really, my only bad hostel experience! So anyway, once we'd left our stuff at the hotel, had a look around in Frankfurt and had something to eat, we left for the venue.

What to say about Commerzbank-Arena...Well, we got into the Golden Circle easily so that was good. But the sound was just so bad! There was a bad echo going around throughout the show and it ruined the atmosphere pretty badly. I was mostly annoyed because you just couldn't hear anything properly, it was all a big blur! I don't recommend this place for shows, so if you can, pick to see your favourite artist somewhere else. Anyway, Robyn was the supporting act, which was nice as I hadn't seen her live before. She sang Be Mine! and I was happy :).

And on to Madonna...sadly, I don't remember that much about the show as I was just so annoyed at the sound. Madonna didn't look too pleased, either, so my guess is she wasn't impressed with the sound at all...After all, she tends to be a perfectionist when it comes to these things. I think my mum got a bit of a bad impression of Madonna live as even though she could see her really well and everything, the experience just wasn't what it is when everything works the way it's supposed to. Also, because of my 2008 experiences of Sticky & Sweet, I was of the opinion that it wasn't such a great tour - until I saw the second leg in 2009, after which I thought Sticky & Sweet was among the best Madonna tours ever! But well, the best bits in 2008 were the following, and they were just as amazing right from the start as they were a year later:

1) The entrance! Very cool! Candy Shop, with Madonna as a sort of female Willy Wonka, on a huge throne. Loved it! One of my favourite songs off Hard Candy, too, so I thought it was a great pick for the opening song. This is from the official DVD, shot in Buenos Aires...

2) Into The Groove, with Madonna skipping rope with Keith Haring artwork in the background, also skipping rope. Loved it, loved it, loved it!! Truly!!

3) The video interlude for Rain/Here Comes The Rain Again and Devil Wouldn't Recognize You straight after. Too beautiful! Very powerful and emotional, too, if you're me.

4) Like A Prayer, mashed up with Meck's Feels Like Home - a slice of heaven!!! With the words "You shall not hate in your heart" all over the screens, the song absolutely hit home for me. A truly ecstatic moment!

But yes, all of these songs were much better in the 2009 shows I went to, even if they were good to begin with, so I don't know what was wrong with 2008. Maybe I just went to the wrong shows, who knows. Oh, and unfortunately I don't have any pictures from Frankfurt as my camera was elsewhere back then, travelling with my ex-partner at the time. We met up in London the day after the Frankfurt show, though, and went to the concert at Wembley Stadium on September 11th together.

We had standing tickets, so no Golden Circle for this show. We did start queueing pretty early but there was no point as the queues were ridiculously long even then and there was just no chance of getting anywhere near the stage. On top of everything, we got into a huge fight (yes, there's a reason why the person in question is and was an ex) and just went even further back because of that. Oh well. It was a different experience as I'd never stood anywhere that far from the stage before. It was quite fun to dance like crazy and have lots and lots of space all to yourself, but definitely not one of my best Madonna experiences. The sound was brilliant, though, but you just couldn't see a thing. Also, apparently after the show, there'd been a chaos involving people getting stuck at Wembley as because Madonna was so late, they missed their last train home. We avoided the chaos and got back to our hostel just fine, but there were lots of headlines about the incident the following day.

Anyway, another fun bit about this trip was us going to see Guy Ritchie's pub (back then also owned by Madonna), The Punch Bowl. We both felt too embarrassed about actually going in as it would've been so obvious we (or I) were just Madonna fans taking a sneak peek, so we stayed a bit further away and just took a couple of pictures. Now I don't even want to go in as Guy isn't among my favourite people in the world. But, the pub was featured in Madonna's documentary film I'm Going to Tell You a Secret, which is about The Re-Invention Tour, and Madonna and Guy had actually spent the evening of September 10th there for Guy's birthday. So, pretty cool!

Me somewhere close to The Punch Bowl.

On our way home, Antti Tuisku (a Finnish singer born in 1984, and a Madonna fan, too) was on the same flight from London to Tampere with us, apparently coming home from the same Madonna show we went to :D. He was singing "my sushi is raw, my sushi is raw" with a friend of his when we were queueing for passport control, and I was annoyed as in my mind, no one (apart from me) is supposed to have their own Madonna inside jokes...yes, I'm horrible and horribly jealous of Madonna. Glad they'd had fun, too, though :D!

End of part 1, to be continued...

Music sounds better live! Part III

Alright, time to go on with my posts about tour experiences! After The Re-Invention Tour, it only took Madonna two years to get going again, and with an amazing album, too; in my humble opinion, Confessions On A Dance Floor was Madonna's best album since Ray Of Light, and the tour definitely matched the greatness of the record.

So, it was the year 2006 and I was wondering where to go and see her this time. I ended up with standing tickets for the September 4th show at Amsterdam Arena in Holland. I don't know how and I have no recollections of buying the tickets - I do remember that I was a happy owner of a credit card by then, though. However, there were no specific Golden Circle tickets sold for the arena, which meant that, with enough queueing and a bit of luck, you could actually make it to the Golden Circle, which is the front area of the arena. It's in the shape of a circle - hence the name - and only a limited number of people are let in. Usually, they sell special GC tickets, but sometimes it works like it did in Amsterdam and anyone with a general standing ticket has the chance of ending up there. Of course, by then, I'd never been close enough to see Madonna's face yet and I'd never been in the Golden Circle. Needless to say, I was very much determined to get there! Luckily for me, I have tons of friends in Holland, and one of them, an avid concert-goer by the name of Marjon, told me that the best way to make it inside the arena among the first people once the gates are opened is to stay close to the fences on the sides, and by grabbing the fences, you manage to move on quicker than if you are stuck in the middle of groups of people trying to push their way into the security check. That piece of advice was GOLDEN!! Pun intended.

But, before the Madonna show, something else great happened. Madonna's long-term backup singer Donna DeLory had a meet & greet session at one of Amsterdam's many record stores! Woot! Now, to get in, you'd have had to buy her latest album so I didn't do that (bear in mind I was still a poor student in those days - it's a miracle I've even managed to make these concert trips happen in the first place!) but I did go outside the record shop to see her from up close. VERY COOL! I remember thinking that SO many cool things are happening in other countries and I'm missing out because I'm living in Finland...Anyway, here's Donna!

Okay, back to the concert itself! Except that since I still didn't bring my camera to the show, here's a silly picture of me with my ticket :D!

Right, on we go, then. So, we started queueing at noon and it was a long day since the concert started after 9 pm, if I remember right. Once we were let inside the venue, we did what Marjon had told us to do, and were indeed among the first ones to start running up the steep steps that lead into the arena and towards the Golden Circle - AND WE MADE IT!!! I cannot tell you how incredible I felt there and then - we were in the Golden Circle, I'd be seeing Madonna up close in a few hours!! My heart was beating so fast and I was crying! 14 years of being a fan and I was finally actually seeing her! Even to date, after many more shows, the Amsterdam show is my best Madonna experience because it honestly has been Madonna at her best since Blond Ambition and it was simply that special to finally see her properly.

The show started with Future Lovers/I Feel Love, and Madonna made her entrance at the end of the catwalk. We were in front of the main stage, on the right, so didn't see her properly once the huge discoball opened and she got out. It was a crazy moment as I knew she was there and that it was only a matter of time before she'd be in front of me. The tension was building like nothing else, and finally, she started moving towards the main stage.....I can't even write about it without going crazy all over again! Here's the London version...watch it and know how incredible it was, to actually be there! At 7:25, I saw Madonna for the first time ever and fell in love all over again...she looked very nervous, was tiny and just EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I LOVE HER!!!!!

And then she'd go on to sing Get Together right in front of me...<3<3<3...Sorry about not being able to write a proper text here, there's just too much love, and love like this knows no words. Among the most incredible moments in my life, this concert is! Also, I love the way Madonna moves her body and how all of her dance moves are sharp and edgy and so much more than anyone else's in her shows, and it was just such a pleasure to see it all properly. Her body was and is amazing! Her muscles - I continue to be in love with her arms...Oh yes.

Well, some of the best moments...Like A Virgin, with Madonna on fake horseback, Jump with amazing parkour action all over the stage and the audience as well, Live To Tell live from the cross....one of the most touching performances I've ever seen, I was crying all over the place. In case you don't know, Live To Tell is only one of the best Madonna songs ever...

There were religious people having a mini-demonstration outside the venue when we were queueing, attacking this specific performance as obviously it's blasphemy to sing a song while hanging on a crucifix...It enrages me to come across with such biggoted people, to be honest, as the point of this performance was pure beauty and love: "In Africa, 12 million children are orphaned by AIDS."  And then the words from Matthew 25:35 : "For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, and God replied, Whatever you did for one of the least of my brothers, you did it for me." It's only to demonstrate how any one of us can be like Jesus and be good to those around us. It's portrayed in an extremely powerful way to leave you with deep feelings and the need to do your share in making the world a better place. I certainly had a lot of thoughts going on through my head during this show.

On we go to Isaac - what a beautiful, beautiful performance, and my two absolute favourites: Drowned World/Substitute For Love and Paradise (Not For Me). So much love in the air, Madonna asked us to repeat after her "we are one!!" etc. and to hug the person next to us, and we were hugging random people around us and feeling such connection to one another, it was the most religious experience I've ever had, and all for love and caring about one another.

The atmosphere at the show was unbelievable. The fans were polite and talked to each other, everyone was given lots of space to dance and have a good time, and everyone was smiling, singing and jumping around like mad!  I had an amazing time, and I only needed that one experience as it was more special like that. I have high hopes for the new tour, though, so who knows, maybe Confessions actually has a rival in Girl Gone Wild? If that's the name of the 2012 tour, that is. But nothing will ever overcome this experience for me, I don't think.

Music sounds better live! Part II

After The Drowned World Tour, it took Madonna three years to go back on tour. When The Re-Invention Tour was announced in 2004, I was in the exact same situation as before - I still didn't have a credit card and with that, a way of buying tickets. I felt so frustrated when all I could do was watch all the shows sell out one after another, at the same time being unable to get that one ticket for myself. But then, miraculously and long after the tickets had gone out, I noticed that the show at Slane Castle in Ireland on August 29th hadn't sold out yet. In a fit of despair, I managed to convince my mum to let me use her credit card to buy tickets, and suddenly I found myself booked to go to Dublin for a week with my partner at the time. I was so, so excited, once again! Dublin had been on my list of places I wanted to go to for a long time so now I got to go there and see Madonna - a pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

The concert was at Slane Castle, meaning you had to take a bus there from Dublin. They had organised buses to take you to and from the show, which was highly appreciated as how else would you have managed to take yourself to the middle of nowhere where the castle is situated? I remember feeling all weird on the bus when it became clear that the show would take place in the countryside - Madonna, somewhere, in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by sheep? A surreal idea!

We still had to walk a long way to the castle from where the buses dropped us off, and it was just lovely. We were there before the gates were opened, and when they were, everyone just rushed into the forest :D! Amazing, I loved it! It was raining while we were queueing and I was wondering how Madonna would be feeling about it - I know she's always panicking about it raining during her show and the stage being too slippery and thus unsafe for performing on. Later on when I watched I'm Going To Tell You A Secret, I found out that's exactly what she had been worried about. Luckily the rain stopped and the show went on - Madonna was very late but maybe it's understandable because of the weather. Anyway, we had general standing tickets and were quite close to the stage - not close enough to see Madonna's face properly apart from once during the show, but it was still the closest I'd got to the stage until then and I was excited. Oh, and Slane Castle was the perfect place for a big show like that - you have the stage, and then a beautiful castle up on a hill right behind you, moonlight and dozens of thousands of people camping out, all excited for Madonna. Precious!

This is another experience I don't remember that much of. I didn't have a camera with me as back then, I was still worried about security taking it away and always decided to play it safe by leaving it at the hostel. The show is a blur. I remember The Beast Within kicking the show off and going all kinds of crazy because it was so beautiful, and I was SO looking forward to Madonna making her entrance...and then Vogue, with amazing yoga-style choreography, Madonna looking absolutely stunning and her outfit being gorgeous...Burning Up was too good to be true! Usually, I hate it when Madonna tries to play the guitar as to me, she's a dancer and has to stay that way, but Burning Up was perfect for her guitar experiments! There's hardly any video material to be found of the Slane Castle show, but since it has to be posted in one form or another, here, have the Lisbon version...

The slow, jazzy version of Deeper And Deeper really impressed me, and so did Lament off Evita - Madonna's voice sounded just SO good, I was completely in awe! She usually doesn't sound too good live, which is why I don't mind her lip-synching to new studio recordings of the songs, but Lament, just WOW! But, my favourites were definitely Nothing Fails and Mother And Father. Just amazingly beautiful and went straight to my heart. During Nothing Fails it was raining again and a crew member had to hold a big, black umbrella up for Madonna...And then during Crazy For You, she thanked her fans for sticking with her through thick and thin...aaaaaaaaah, what a beautiful night!

A few videos: Papa Don't Preach because it's the only full video I found from Slane, and Mother and Father because it's one of my all-time favourite Madonna performances, even if this version is from Lisbon as well.

"I made a vow that I would never need another person ever, turned my heart into a cage, a victim of a kind of rage" <3

After the show, the dozens of thousands of people all left the castle at the same time. Now THAT was a hassle, I'm telling you! The walk back to the buses was LONG and we had to walk in complete darkness on muddy roads as it had been raining so much during the day and the show. I couldn't see a thing and I kept sinking into the mud :D. It took probably almost an hour till we were at the buses again and taken back to Dublin. When we got back to the hostel, we had to wash our shoes as they looked like clay sculptures by this point :D. It was all SO worth it, though :D!

Music sounds better live! Part I

I'm way too excited about Madonna going on tour again this summer and thought I should dedicate an entry to the Madonna tours I've had the pleasure to already experience and worship with my own eyes, ears and soul. While I'm at it, I'll also have to say a few words about the tours that I haven't actually seen live but that have nevertheless provided me with everlasting memories.

Now, if you read my previous entry on how I became a fan, you'll guess that my favourite Madonna tour of all time is Blond Ambition. It's the tour that I grew up watching, and for many years before I'd actually seen Madonna live, I'd go around saying that the greatest tragedy of my life was not being old enough to go and see Blond Ambition live. In 1990, I was just 8 years old and no one would ever have taken me to another country to see Madonna - that's simply not how things worked back then, plus I wasn't even a fan yet back in 1990. I still wish I'd been able to experience Blond Ambition because for me, it's the best a live show can possibly get, ever. The themes of the show are perfect, as are all the song choices and costumes; you've got Donna and Niki still touring with Madonna, and Madonna looks and is gorgeous in every way. I'm sorry but my words just aren't enough. Blond Ambition is perfect.

And then there was The Girlie Show in 1993. I was 11 and wanted to go. I saw an ad in the newspaper about a trip that some travel agency was organising - they'd take you to Germany to see a show and I obviously wanted to go. My mum wouldn't agree, and I had to give up on the idea. I was longing to go so badly but there was nothing I could do about it. The show in Germany was cancelled in the end anyway so I'd still have missed out even if I'd managed to convince my mum to book the trip. But! The good news was that they were at least going to broadcast the show live from Sydney, and my mum's boyfriend at the time had the channel where they were going to show it, so I made him tape it for me. Oh happy day! Except that that show was cancelled, too. I was so impatient and so worried about not getting my tape after all. But, they re-scheduled the show, or apparently actually showed the filmed version of the previous night's concert, and I did get to see it in the end! The concert was eventually shown over here at a time that I couldn't actually be by the TV, but, the following day, I went over to my mum's boyfriend's to collect the tape. I insisted we watch a couple of songs there and then...a choice I still regret to this very day :D! As the fans amongst you know, the show, accordingly to its title, starts with topless female strippers descending from the ceiling on poles....need I tell you more? I was not shocked, but I most definitely was very embarrassed since my mum and her boyfriend were there :D! I quickly demanded the video be stopped and given to me instead :D. I do love The Girlie Show, too - not as much as I love Blond Ambition, but a lot nevertheless. What's my favourite song? Why's It So Hard.

We had to wait for the next tour for a long, long time - 8 years, to be exact. When in 2001 it was announced that Madonna would go on tour, I was way too excited because I was finally 18 years old and could travel anywhere I wanted to. I'd even have money later on because after my matriculation exam, I'd start working as a telephone interviewer, and I'd also get a lot of money for graduating high school. So, I was all set. Except that I didn't have a credit card, and neither did anyone I knew. So, I just didn't have a way of getting a ticket since Madonna wasn't coming to Finland (Madonna in Finland? Please, it was never going to happen! Who would ever want to perform in Finland anyway?!?) and I'd need a credit card to be able to buy a ticket to a show in another country. But, one day when I came home from school, there was a note there, saying I had a registered letter waiting for me at the Post Office. I had no idea what it could be but I was too curious to not find out straight away, so off to the Post Office I went. They handed me a letter from my penpal in Madrid, Spain, and inside there were two tickets to see Madonna at Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona on June 9th 2001!!! I could not believe my eyes when I was holding the tickets in my hands!! I was going to Barcelona!! Again, I have no words for my happiness and excitement!! In the end, I went with my best friend and my Madonna fan penpal from Finland. There were two tickets in the envelope so only two of us would be going to the show, but when we arrived in Barcelona, we quickly noticed there were people on La Rambla selling tickets to the second show in Barcelona, too...We decided to put our pennies together and to not eat anymore during our trip and were able to afford three tickets to the show on June 10th as well. TOO EXCITING!!!!

I went to the first show with my penpal Johanna. The seats were crappy, way up high where you couldn't see anything at all, and the sound wasn't too good, either, but we were still extremely excited since it was our first Madonna experience ever. I was in ecstacy and basically shaking when the show started with Drowned World/Substitute For Love...I honestly don't remember much at all about my very first Madonna show. I remember the start and I remember Sky Fits Heaven because it was so impressive visually. See for yourself:

I'm really bad at describing my Madonna experiences because I'm in such a euphoric state of mind that it's all feelings that don't leave any space for words in my mind. But it was incredible, even from a nose-bleed distance. I remember calling my mum after the show and describing how amazing everything was to her in great detail, so I must have had something to say at one point :D.

The following day, I was even more excited because the seats were so much better! Okay, so we still couldn't see Madonna's face but we could see the whole show really well and were significantly closer to the stage than we were the previous night. Incredible! Madonna was there, in the same room with me, and I could see her dancing and singing there!! There is an audio recording of the second show where during Beautiful Stranger, you can actually hear me scream "MADONNNNAAAAAAAAA!!!" at the top of my lungs, heh :D. My favourites were Drowned World/Substitute For Love, Sky Fits Heaven, and Holiday - my first two times seeing Madonna, and she gave me Holiday, my most important live song that changed my life forever. I was so, so, so happy! You've guessed it - no words. I was singing and dancing the whole time and had the time of my life! When the show ended, the three of us walked down from Montjuïc and Palau Sant Jordi, singing Madonna songs in harmony and people cheered us and would open their car windows to sing along - magical!! I'll never forget that experience - the second time I saw Madonna was incredible!

One more thing: My Blond Ambition tape is her show from the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona - that's right next to Palau Sant Jordi. I think it's amazing I got to see Madonna for the first time so close to where the show I originally worshipped was filmed!

And here are some pictures! The first two are of me in 2001 before and after the shows, and the rest are from 2009 when I returned to Barcelona and re-visited Palau Sant Jordi and the Olympic Stadium to worship Blond Ambition.

And me, looking all crazy in our room after the second show :).
